Dental Hygiene is an important part of keeping one’s body healthy. Keeping this in mind, a workshop was organized for the students of Vydehi School of Excellence on “Dental Hygiene”.
Dr. Pavanalakshmi and the team from Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences Conducted the Workshop for Vydehi Students covering UKG to Grade III as on 9th Oct 14 and 10th Oct 14.
The Topics focused for Pre-Primary (UKG) Children were:
- How to Brush and Floss.
- When to brush.
- Healthy foods.
- How to take care of their teeth.
- About the importance of teeth.
- What they should eat to keep their teeth healthy
- Importance of regular dental attendance.
The workshop covered a little more intense topics when it was for Primary Grades I, II and III
- The functions of teeth – biological and social.
- The structure of a tooth.
- The role of sugar in causing tooth decay.
- The importance of a healthy diet in relation to: Teeth / General Health.
- The role of plaque and gum disease.
- How to see plaque and how to remove it effectively.
- The importance of tooth brushing and using the correct fluoride toothpaste.
- To recognize the signs and symptoms of gum disease.
- The role of saliva.
- The importance of visiting the dentist regularly.
This interactive class-based dental hygiene workshop was successful in motivating younger children to carry out effective oral health practices.
