The workshop on “Classroom as a Learning Environment for All”

The workshop on “Classroom as a Learning Environment for All” by Prof. Richard Rose, University of Northampton, was organised on 20 April, 2015 in Vydehi Campus for teachers of Vydehi School, a school for children with special education needs, and Vydehi School of Excellence. Around 60 staff, including teachers of both schools, attended the workshop.

The workshop focussed on the — Challenges posed by having a diverse classroom group; to examine the nature of differentiation; and look at practical strategies to create inclusive assessment, planning and teaching. The workshop put light on the advantages with inclusive learning. Prof. Rose opined that with inclusive education, children learn to respect and appreciate differences and individuality; improvement is observed in the teaching practices followed in the school; and learning opportunities increases for the students and the teachers.

The interactive workshop was organised with an intention of familiarising the different learning needs of the students. The teachers became familiar with each other’s work profile and understanding the planning and teaching strategies used in the different classrooms. The teachers also were given a task of creating and presenting a lesson plan including different learning needs of students in the class. The workshop was a great learning experience for all.

The workshop was attended by Ms Laly Mathew, School Advisor; Ms Sinia Sajith, Principal.
