Students of Grade 3D and 3E visited the Bangalore Palace to deepen their learning about their exhibition topic – “ THE STORY OF BANGALORE”.
Bangalore Palace is situated in the Palace Gardens, at the heart of the Bangalore city of India. The palace was built in Tudor Revival style architecture with fortified towers, battlements and turrets in the year 1887 by Wodeyar dynasty. The interiors were decorated with elegant wood carvings, floral motifs, cornices and relief paintings on the ceiling. The furniture, which was neo-classical, Victorian and Edwardian in style, was bought from John Roberts and Lazarus. The palace has a floor area of 45,000 sq ft, and grounds of 454 acres. The walls along the staircase are adorned with paintings and the Durbar Hall has a massive elephant head mounted in it. The sprawling grounds surrounding the Palace is used for holding public events including music concerts. The renovation included addition of stained glass and mirrors, specially imported from England, besides a manual lift and wooden fans from General Electric. Some paintings of Raja Ravi Verma are also displayed here.
The visit to Bangalore Palace provided students with hands-on learning experience with various elements they could touch or interact. Students had amazing learning experiences while they were having fun. Stepping away from their regular school environment actually opened up their minds and helped them to supplement their knowledge for their exhibition topic “The Story of Bangalore” better.
