Vydehi School of Excellence had organiszed a workshop on inclusion, and all the teachers participated and gained immense knowledge from it on May 24, 2023, in the school auditorium. Inclusion is indeed a crucial aspect of creating an inclusive environment, and it encompasses not just physical proximity but also intentional planning for the success of all students.
The workshop, hosted by Ms. Santhi Karamchetty and her colleagues from Eka, was very informative and engaging. The focus on the rights of persons with disabilities to be educated together with their peers in age-appropriate class groups is an important aspect of inclusion.
It’s also commendable that the workshop emphasised that inclusion goes beyond abilities and disabilities. Including children from difficult backgrounds, street children, and children from orphanages is essential to creating a truly inclusive environment.
The workshop also shed light on the concept of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), which are vital pillars of any work environment. Understanding these principles helps foster an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and supported.
By providing examples and activities, the workshop effectively conveyed the importance of using positive reinforcement and avoiding punitive measures in the classroom. This understanding can help teachers address the various challenges they may encounter while teaching.
Overall, it sounds like the workshop was both enjoyable and enlightening, benefiting the organisation and its teachers. It’s wonderful that we found it fruitful and gained solutions to the different problems faced in the classroom.
It’s encouraging to see enthusiasm for more insightful workshops in the future. Continued professional development and learning opportunities are essential for educators to stay updated with best practises and strategies for fostering inclusion.
