On 11th of May 2020, Grade 1 kids were engaged in learning –“All about Turmeric” through a Virtual Study Trip.Turmeric- Indian saffron or the golden spice grows in Asia and Central America. India is the world’s top producer and consumer of turmeric, it grows underground. Indian dishes are never complete without turmeric. Food makers use turmeric to add golden colour to the recipes and to balance the taste of the dish. They look like ginger. It is said that turmeric is an ancient medicine used to cure many diseases. It is also used for hay fever, depression, high cholesterol, a type of liver disease, itching, inflammatory bowel disease, stress, and many other conditions. It is also used to anoint deities. More importantly, when India had to choose the colour of the flag, it chose green to represent fertile land, white to represent truth and saffron to represent sacrifice, so turmeric is also known as a sacred colour.

Our children with the help of their parents were able to learn and discover the origin of turmeric and its benefits through virtual study trip and comprehending their understanding by answering to the questionnaire.
