In the three working sessions of Reap Benefit program, each of them conducted by two mentors Ms Camilla and Ms Utkarsha , the following Skills were activated – Analytical thinking , Data Collection, Math Proficiency & Collaboration. During the first session the students were introduced to the concept of Problem Solving and 20th century skills, specifically so in relation to environmental and civic issues. They explored this through videos and a Discover Problem Hunt, which built their awareness to everyday environmental problems. The next stage was an introduction to Design Thinking and its application. Students were involved in learning of its application and understanding the difference between Good Design and Bad Design. They were also engaged in an activity to understand how to best maximize a user’s experience. With their knowledge of real life problems and design thinking, the students moved on to the level of investigation. Here they worked in their groups and their comprehension of design thinking was witnessed here with sketches of their solution drawn out. By the end of the session, each group had a defined problem statement on what they wanted to solve.
In continuation of our efforts to train young minds, fourth session was conducted by a team of four mentors on Friday 11th August, 2017. They trained our students for Building Solutions based on the problem statements defined by the students. Each group had narrowed in on one project and theme they wanted to work on, and on the basis of their ideas. They worked with some physical tools under the supervision of four mentors and three teacher in-charges. Here is a table on the projects each group worked, as well as its impact and relevance.
